Okay, the project first proposed by David Bridge is now
underway. We have prepared the format and an introductory
page, and David graciously contributed the initial strawman
species account. We are not yet ready to go public, but it is
time to give all of you a chance to comment both on the
format and the first species review, this time for Snowy Owl.
You cannot reach these two prototype pages via the MOS
State Web Site index just yet. However, you can view them
at:
http://www.MDBirds.org/finder.html
What do we need from you now? First, comment on the
format. Is something missing? Should something be left out?
You know the drill.
Second, what about this particular report? Do you have
additional information? Does something need to be clarified
further?
Please send responses OFF LIST as a courtesy to others.
You can use the link below to reach me, or send a note to
saunderf@ari.net. The link to the main site will be made when
we have agreed upon the format and the review period is over.
In the future, here's how MD/DC BirdFinder will work:
1. A new species report will be posted "blind" for a period of
one week before it is formally added to the site. Notifications
about new reports will be made on MDOsprey. During the
review period anyone can propose changes, add further
information, etc. Names of those contributing additional data
will be added to the review.
2. Who can write a species review? Anyone! But please
remember that MD/DC BirdFinder is limited to the more
unusual or hard to find species and we would like you to let us
know if you are planning to write a review so that we can avoid
duplication. Further information can be found on the entry
page listed above.
You can poke holes in any of the guidelines, methodology,
etc. We want this to work for everyone, so please don't
hesitate make your views known.
