Went birding Wednesday with Rik Blom in Harford County (Still working on my Big Year List). Very Good Day, Lots of birds, Perfect weather! Started at Hoadley Road, Edgewood Area APG: Gr Scaup Ls Scaup Mute Swan Pintail Ruddy Duck Shoveler Ring-Necked Duck Pair of Grebes-- These grebes initially flew into and out of my scope field, and were moving around the river a lot, every 5 minutes they would fly off to another area -- very agitated. One grebe in winter plumage was not positively ID'd, only seen once. The other was 75-90% moulted to summer plumage, and was an Eared Grebe, with fanning golden "ears", a dark ventral neck/chest, a very "flat-topped" bill, and white secondaries, but no white in the pytagial area of its forewing. Bird was seen flying from one end of the river (near the train tracks) to the other, loosely associating with the 2 scaup flocks for brief periods of time. Last seen at the point near the eaast end of the river. Caspian Tern Other highlights included : Blue Winged Teal at Perryman Pond Cattle Egret in the parking lot of a Volkswagen auto repair building on Perryman Road. Total Species number for the day was 60. Brian Monk Bel Air, MD 410 836 7033
