My feeling is that the first-winter "mystery gull" that I described at 
Conowingo Dam was not a Thayer's Gull. There were just too many 
characters that did not fit. Was it a very pale Herring Gull?; a 
hybrid?; or some other species that I am not familiar with?; I just 
don't know.
