On Sunday, February 28, 1999 I visited Piney Run Park (PR) and
Westminster Reservoir (WR) in Carroll County. Birds seen were:
Pied-billed Grebe 2 at PR, Great Blue Heron 1 at PR, Canada Goose
20 at PR & 150 at WR, Black Duck 80 at PR & 12 at WR, Mallard 20 at PR &
30 at WR, Pintail 1 at PR, Canvasback 1 at PR (arrival), Redhead 11 at
WR, Ring-necked Duck 2 at PR & 1 at WR, Bufflehead 20 at PR, Hooded
Merganser 6 at PR, Common Merganser 25 at PR, Ruddy Duck 15 at PR, Bald
Eagle 1 immature at Piney Run, Coot 450 at PR & 10 at WR, Ring-billed
Gull 4 at PR & 11 at WR, Herring Gull 1 at PR & 1 at WR, Ruby-crowned
Kinglet 1 at WR (rare here in winter), Hermit Thrush 2 at PR, Cedar
Waxwing 6 at PR, Myrtle Warbler 1 at PR (rare here in winter), Towhee 1
at PR, Fox Sparrow 1 at PR (rather late for an arrival date), Common
Grackle 1 at Westminster (also rather late for my first of the spring).
