To my knowledge (please send me additions and corrections), the following is a summary of the vocalizations of the Kelp Gull: * 2/17--before 7:10 a.m., 20 seconds of staccato "bup, bup, bup," while sitting * 2/19--between 4:20 and 4:30 p.m., several separate sets of higher-pitched feeding calls while flying (Tyler Bell and I have this on tape, along with howing winds noises...) * 2/20--around 9(-ish?) a.m., "sea lion-like" barking for several seconds, while seating * 2/21--around 2(-ish?) p.m., Kelp Gull "grunted" for a couple of seconds while seated, as Paul Gueris (sp) chummed cookies out for it, within approx. 20 feet of the bird. * 2/21--around 3 p.m., Kelp Gull gave one single squawk when it drove a ring-billed gull off a favorite piling.
