Andy,
The carolinensis subspecies of junco is the one which breeds in
the mountains of Garrett County. It occasionally descends to lower
elevations in winter. It has been reported in Howard County, probably by
a bander. It is probably not idenfifiable in the field, though Jim may
correct me on that.
As for Oregon and Pink-sided Juncos some people call them all
Oregon Juncos, others differentiate. This is some degree of difficulty
in identifying them due to variation in plumage. We could not agree on
birds seen in Carroll County two years ago.
