Yesterday Bryan Monk and I spent a few hours birding Harford
County. We had a fairly slow day considering pure numbers, but a few
goodies popped up and we ended up with a nice list for December 1.
Highlights.
Canada Goose (small race) 1 with flock on Jarrettsville Road, 200
yards into Baltimore County
Virginia Rail 2 (Bosley Conservancy)
American Woodcock 5 (Bosley Conservancy)
Greater Yellowlegs 1 (Bosley Conservancy)
Great Horned Owl 1 (Bosley Conservancy)
Pine Warbler 1 (near Boy Scout Camp)
Yellow-headed Blackbird 1 (imm male in flock of 10,000+ blackbirds just
east of Bradenbaugh Road. Seen sitting and flying by both of us.
In addition, Eastern Bluebirds and White-breasted Nuthatches seemed
to be in espewcially high numbers. We ended up with more than a dozen
nuthatches, ioncluding 6 at one site.

"Everywhere I go I'm asked if the university stifles writers. My opinion is
that they don't stifle enough of them. There's many a bestseller that could
have been prevented by a good teacher." Flannery O'Connor
