Tom, I have both Thayer products...the Birder's Diary for 
recordkeeping and the Birds of NA set for reference.  I love 
them both, even though I found the former somewhat buggy.  I 
understand, however, that the newly released version has fixed 
many of the problems.  Also, I am amazed at how many times 
we have run into the latter product at refuge visitor centers and 
the like.  During our latest trip a quick check on the calls and 
songs of some target species was instrumental in helping us 
find them.
