Hi,
My recommendation to you would be to avoid going during Victorian Week. Almost
all the B&B's with resonable rates are booked. I don't remember when exactly
Victorian Week is, but I seem to always get stuck there at that time (I think
its already past). Also, Cape May Bird Observatory has a list of B&B's that
support conservation or are members of CMBO. I found most of these to be
between average to high end in cost. Also, check the internet (Cape May
Commerce has a listing of B&B's and will check the availability of rooms for
you - you don't have to call every B&B individually).
I decided a while ago to stop staying at B&B's in Cape May for the following
reasons:
You usually have to share a shower in the reasonably priced houses - so you
can't plan to get out on time unless your up by 5AM.
I don't spend much time in my room anyway
Breakfast is usually not served as early as I need it to be.
Some B&B's will make special early breakfasts for birders.
If you want to wait to a little later for breakfast, and get some birding in
first - Try The Mad Batter which is both a B&B (more like an Inn) and a great
little restaurant. I had the Eggs benedict with backfin crab and potatoes (was
wonderful!).
