Hiya, Howard!
Nice trip report for Layhill Park. I birded close to home too, doing the
Tucker Lane hotspot for warblers and migrants all three mornings this weekend.
I turned up 18 warbler species, 4 vireos, and lots of other goodies too.
My warbler list was: Tennessee, Nashville, N. Parula, Chestnut-sided,
Magnolia, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, Blackburnian, Prairie,
Bay-breasted, Black-and-white, A. Redstart, Ovenbird, Kentucky,
C.Yellowthroat, Hooded, Canada, and Yellow-breasted Chat. Vireos were Yellow-
throated, Red-eyed, White-eyed (still singing) and a single PHILADELPHIA VIREO
seen both Sunday and again on Monday morning in the company of many White-
eyes. A handsome bird!
A front must've come through on Friday night, as Saturday morning was quite
good, producing 14 species of warblers, and Veery, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Y-B
Cuckoo, and Scarlet Tanager as well as all the warblers and vireos (except
Philie). I had 57 species on Saturday morning, 47 on Sunday, and only 40 on
Monday, and birded virtually the same area each day.
So it's nice to see such goodies as we both got without having to travel too
far (we were also thinking of going down to the hook this weekend, but opted
to stay home and not fight the traffic). How're the trails at Layhill park?
