I saw the rail both days in the morning, around 9:00-9:30, near the fountain and near the ivy-covered outbuilding on the northwest corner of the National Museum of African Art. It tends to feed out in the open, then disappear for varying lengths of time in the hostas, hedges or other undergrowth. As I told a birder today, just because you don't see it right away, don't despair. Last week and this week, mid-morning and midafternoon seemed good times to see it. Noon-time does not seem so productive. Jim Jim Felley Smithsonian Institution irmss668@sivm.si.edu
