Hi,
I had the wonderful opportunity of seeing the Pacific Loon on Saturday.
A very nice man with a spotting scope let me look at it (the loon, not
the scope) several times during my visit. My question is why is the loon
there? While I am glad I got to see this rare bird, I wonder why it came
here and why it is staying. I realize that no one knows the answer, but
is there any speculation? I also wonder why it is so "tame". There were
several recreational boats including two jet skis (one of which went
right over the loon--who dove) puttering around the poor bird when I saw
it. Could it be ill? Could it be an escape from some zoo? Will it ever
find its way home?
Just wondering,

PS Oh, and to show you all how inexperienced I am, I saw my first Great
Crested Flycatcher in my back yard on Sunday morning. I usually check my
e-mail first thing, but I chose to drink my coffee on the back porch
instead and was rewarded with a what do you call it-- a "lifer" ?
