Hi All:
The OSCC had a " heat wave " trip to Turkey Point on Sun. am, with 55
species total. The trip brought home the fact that spring songbird
migration is virtually over; 8 warbler sp. were tallied, including
singing Blackpoll.

INDIGO BUNTINGS were most co-operative, perched just about everywhere we
looked, displaying their electric blue colours. BOBWHITE were singing
loudly along the way , but were not so co-operative! We stood in the
woods for some time, studying a flycatcher who was emitting a strange
one note call, and finally determined it was a young ACADIAN, doing the
" peet " call. This was strengthened when an adult flew in and burst
into the pi-za call. Naturally, we did our best to turn the latter into
something exotic!!

Young ORCHARD ORIOLES were much in evidence, and we all enjoyed an adult
BALTIMORE perched like a glowing decoration atop a snag. A mixed group
of BANK, ROUGH-WING, TREE and BARN SWALLOWS gave us opportunity to study
these on the wing. The usual BALD EAGLE appeared as we were saying we
hadn`t had one yet, probably a 2nd year. YELLOW_BILLED CUCKOO provided
us with uncommonly good llooks, a species sometimes hard to spot.

After the trip , Marcia, Doug & I hiked into Elkton to the rt. 40
industrial park to get WILLOW & LEAST flycatcher, where Marcia had them
the day before. The LEAST was imperative for me, a needed county bird.
Both were co-operative ( in that they were there & singing their
respective fitz-bew & che-bek calls ) , so we went home happy, in my
case to tackle the ever present pile of mulch in the driveway!!
Take care all,
Leslie Fisher
