The breeding plumage Pacific Loon was still in Washington Channel at Hains Point (East Potomac Park) at 11:00. It has worked virtually the entire length of the channel, back and forth, so it might be up near the Main Ave. fish market, or down by the point, opposite the War College. It was often a few feet from the shore of Potomac Park, ignoring the fishermen, so you would not see it from the road. Get out and look up and down the channel. For most Marylanders, the best route would be down the GW Parkway, keep left at signs for the Airport, exit at 395 North, (tricky hard to see exit from right lane). As you cross the 14th St bridge into DC there is another quick, tricky exit with brown sign sayin Potomac Park (just keep right as you cross the bridge.) Once off 395, take left at first stop sign, right at second stop sign. This becomes the one way loop around the point. Bird was along the first mile, along Washington channel. The loop is likely to CLOSE at 3PM today. You can still easily walk it, but parking might scarce. The best bet might be the parking for tennis courts just after you turn left at the first stop sign. Good Luck Mary Ann Todd
