Some areas require high clearance, many (if not most) do not. If you
want to go to French Joe Canyon or into California Gulch, then a
strong heart, high clearance, and just possibly 4WD would be useful,
but you can do an awful lot of birding in SE Arizona with a standard
auto, Joe. Be sure you learn how to use your gears to provide
braking on some of the long downhills, otherwise you risk burning
your brakes out!
Get the ABA guide to Southeastern AZ and you should be just fine!
