Where Jim Green took a group about a month ago was off Hughes Hollow Road north of the park entrance. Go up this road about a quarter of a mile and park by the gate on the left; walk across the road into the field and stand in the middle of the open field on the right. This worked for us. I ran into Jim yesterday at Hughes Hollow; he reported spotting 2 Red-headed Woodpeckers, a Rusty Blackbird and an American Bittern, all in the area of the impoundments. The Bittern was near where the first path goes off to the left. I was not so fortunate, although I did see a fly over of 10 Tundra Swans and the loads of Tree Swallows over the impoundments. On the way out, along the dirt road, I saw a bunch of White-throated Sparrows and 2 Red-shouldered Hawks being hounded by a single Crow! In the area of Reilly's Lock, I ran into other MOSers (Lydia, Linda and Ann) who reported hearing a Louisiana Waterthrush. Robb and Denise reported seeing a Yellow-throated Warbler in the area of Violet's Lock. I had to satisfy myself mostly with the beautiful wild flowers, but I did see some Eastern Phoebes, a Red-tailed Hawk and American Goldfinches and a beautiful day.
