Roger, first go to a book store and get the book by Claudia Wilds on
birding the Washington Area. That book will have the basic birding
areas of OC. Yes, "the jetty" is at the inlet next to the amusement
parks. Another basic area is the "4th Street" flats. This is a sandy
island in the middle of the bay just north of the route 50 bridge. It
can be viewed in OC from a road that parallels the bay that intersects
about 4th street or from the other side of the bay from a closed
restaurant along the west shore of the bay. The west OC pond is north
of route 50 just outside of OC. Drive west from OC on route 50, turn
right at a Exxon Station (Gulf Course Rd.?) and the pond is on the
left in less than 1/2 mile. I have never been to the race track pond,
but further west on route 50 is another right turn to Ocean Downs
(should be signs). I assume the pond is there. Check old MDOspreys on
Baltimore Bird Club--OC birding areas have been discussed before. Good
luck, Dan Eberly
