potential rarities

Thanks Harvey Mudd for stressing the importance of reporting a
possible rarity, even without certain ID. Birds are not always
accomodating when it comes to proper light, close approach, and
prolonged views! Besides, it is often not possible to get *all* the
correct field marks on a bird either. This applies to *any* birder.
Additionally, some birds haven't read all the literature and do not
abide by standard field marks. This is both frustrating and exciting
all at the same time. (But the constant learning experience is part
of what makes birding so enjoyable.) I definitely cast my affirmative
vote for _seeing_ a potential rarity (and have it turn out to be a
common bird) in lieu of _hearing about_ a positively ID'd rarity.
Aargh!
