21 Feb at Great Falls, MD
The water level was high but not high enough to prevent walking out to
the overlook. A Barred Owl, being mobbed by a flock of crows, was
sighted about 3/4 mile south of the tavern in the area between the canal
and the river. Other sightings, all south of the tavern-Crows, Blue
Jays, Cardinals, Juncos, Canada Geese, Mallard Ducks, Black and Turkey
Vultures and a male Belted Kingfisher (1/4 mile below lock 15).
22 Feb at the Hughes Hollow area (McKee-Beshers WMA)
In the Polo field just outside the park-Blue Birds, a Field Sparrow and
Juncos.
Along the path from the parking lot to the canal-Juncos, Red-winged
Blackbirds, Cardinals, Turkey Vultures, a White-breasted Nuthatch, a
Hermit Thrush, an Eastern Phoebe, a Red-bellied Woodpecker, an Eastern
Towhee, lots of White-throated Sparrows, Crows and Blue Jays, and an
immature Red-shouldered Hawk.
