At Cape Henlopen State Park: Tyler Bell and I had three RED CROSSBILLS fly over us, calling, at the parking lot near the observation tower at the Great Dunes overlook at 10:20 a.m. today, 1/2/98. We also had a PINE SISKIN at the thistle feeder at the Visitor Center, around 11 a.m. About a half mile north of the Fenwick Island Visitor Center on the bay side of the road, we had at least 100,000 SNOW GEESE. (we didn't take time to look for any Ross's Geese!) At Ocean City Inlet, we had 3 HARLEQUIN DUCKS, including one male, plus 6 COMMON EIDERs, including 2 adult males. There were also PURPLE SANDPIPERS and RUDDY TURNSTONES on the riprap. At the 4th Street flats, we were pleased to see about two dozen AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS taking advantage of the extremely low water!
