Yesterday afternoon (11/11/97) at about 4 PM, I observed the waterfowl
at Black Hill Regional park in Montgomery county MD. I was at the
pullout just south of the bridge over the lake. Using my scope (up to
60X), I noted two OLDSQUAW near the dam. One was mostly white with a
very noticeable long black tail plume and a black breastband. The
other, which stayed near the first one, was dark in front with a white
patch around the eye.
Also present were several rafts of Bufflehead (totaling over 300),
perhaps 100 Ruddy Ducks, two Horned Grebes, several Common
Goldeneyes, Pied-Billed Grebes, Coots, Mallards, and Geese.
