There is an active Southern Maryland Audubon Society; perhaps that is
why there is no MOS chapter.
Cheers,
Kathy

Dear Southern Neighbors:
I've noted that Arlene Ripley has subscribed here and I think at
least one or two others from Southern Maryland have signed on as well
and now I have a question for y'all:
Is there some reason of which I am unaware that a Maryland
Ornithological Society Chapter has never been formed from among the
many active birders in Charles, Calvert, and Saint Mary's Counties?
If the sentiment is there at all to form such an alliance, the timing
couldn't be better! In 1999 the MOS has decided to hold their Annual
Meeting in Solomon's Island, Calvert County (the 1998 Annual Meeting
will be at the Wisp Ski Resort in Garrett County).
While the organization for the meeting facility, signing of contracts,
etc, etc, is carried out by the MOS State Conference Chair (the
incumbent is Lou DeMouy, of Montgomery County), we have always
depended on the 'local talent' to help arrange field trips over the
two-and-a-half-day conference to make sure we get a chance to sample
all of the local hotspots while being guided by those folks who know
them the best.
So, having said all that.what do you Southern Maryland folks think?
Are you interested in finding out more about the MOS or about the
requirements for setting up a MOS Chapter?
On a related note, who here will we see at Wisp in May 1998??? Should
we wear signs to identify ourselves to each other?
Cheers,
Norm
