On Thursday my first Chipping Sparrow arrived. This morning = my first Common Loon flew over the house about 6:45 AM. Tonight two = Killdeer were calling and flying south to the marsh about 3/4 south at = 6:10 PM. =20 The Dark-eyed Junco flock seems to be thinning, and many left flying NW = in a determined manner. Maybe 30 remain from the high of about 100 or = so. About 10 White-throated are also still around, and three Fox = Sparrow continue to scratch the ground around. The calling Eastern = Towhee brings the sparrow count up to five for the day. I expect the = juncos, and fox sparrows to be gone within a week, if not sooner. The = White-throats usually remain until about middle April. The female = Yellow-bellied Sapsucker put in a brief appearance this morning as well. = She will be in Nova Scotia with in the month. Northern Flicker, Downy, = Hairy, and Red-bellied Woodpeckers were also present today. =20 I watch a thermal while eating lunch on the deck. One thermal (kettle) = contained three Red-tailed Hawks and one immature Bald Eagle about noon. = The only other raptor today was a Cooper's Hawk hunting Mourning Dove = in the back yard in mid afternoon. My presence may have disrupted it's = hunting since all the doves got away when I came out of the garage. = Sorry Coop. Now it will have to re-coop. Tonight could be a good night for Barn Owls to migrate. Listen outside = your house and maybe you will hear one call overhead. =20 American Toads and Spring peepers have been calling all afternoon. The = first Cabbage White showed up on Wednesday. Can the Whip-poor-will be = far behind? Mike Callahan called to advise that Yellow-throated Warbler were in at = Nanjemoy. Thanks Mike. I will get down early next week. I am still = looking for Red-necked Grebe, and a better look at a White-winged Scoter = - maybe at Cobb Island tomorrow. The season is changing. =20 George =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D =========================================================================
