A Pileated Woodpecker was in the woods (Mont.) the entire time -- we got a good look at it when we first got there, and heard it calling intermittently during the rest of the time we were there. Kurt Schwartz's 503 Common Mergs were still there -- but by now there are 508 of them. (Just kidding, Kurt, we weren't able to count them either.) A Horned Grebe was nice enough to swim past not 15 feet from where we were standing (Mont.), but the biggest treat was a pair of Bald Eagles -- they circled together over the lake, then flew off into Howard County. There were two flocks of gulls -- one was a group of Ring-bills -- the birds in the other were smaller and stubbier. They didn't land or come close enough for us to get a definite ID, but since Kurt reported seeing a Bonaparte's there two days ago, it's likely that's what they were.
