Driving was rather hazardous, with almost all traffic lights out, but got home, picked up my wife and daughter and headed up to Brighton Dam. More birders than birds here, as we got out of the van to meet Dennis and Jane Coskren and Jo Solem, who were checking out the reservoir for the second time. Hans Holbrook arrived a bit later, filling us in on what he had seen much earlier in the morning (Peregrine Falcon, Sterna sp. terns among others). Nothing much of note, except a very far-off pair of Caspian Terns, a single D-C Cormorant and an immature Bald Eagle flying over. Later in the afternoon we (my wife and I) headed up to Black Hill Regional Park to check out the reservoir there. The main entrance was closed by a gate, so we headed to the Rt. 121 bridge. Nothing really out on the water to note however. My first post-Isabel bird sighting was this morning while out walking the dog; Chimney Swifts were flying overhead. These birds must have a high survival rate in big storms (especially those that come through at night), roosting as they do in chimneys. Seems like a safe place to ride out the storm... This was followed by a flyover Downy Woodpecker, and I knew that all was well...
