The reason for my concern about this species is that I would ordinarily expect to be able to locate at least 6 breeding pairs in my 'home' block. This year, I know of only two. And, yes, I too have seen 'families' in July. And, yes, I know when they arrive (March 27th for my 'backyard birds') and that they sing less frequently as the season progresses. However, it is my observation that they still utter their loud chip note when alarmed. My 'backyard' pair did so yesterday when I wandered by their stream (A bird --immature-?even sung a few phrases.) The Governor's Run stream, which usually hosts two pairs has not had ANY this season, if my dozen negative walks/observations are an indication. This is the reason for my concern.
