I arrived quite late, at 8:30 a.m., and found ace DC birder Bill Dobbins sitting on a bench reading a newspaper - not a good sign! The only birds of interest at the Maintenance Yard were 2 SAVANNAH SPARROWS. Around Picnic Area 18 I had a single BLUE-HEADED VIREO, a single OVENBIRD, and 3 PALM WARBLERS. Not very exciting. I went over to Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens and arrived as Gail and Barry were leaving. I believe the only things I saw/heard there that they didn't report earlier today were a GREEN HERON and a singing PROTHONOTARY WARBLER (in the wet woods along the River Trail). Before heading home I went over to the wetlands at Anacostia park, and found 1 RED-TAILED HAWK, 1 AMERICAN KESTREL, another GREEN HERON, and a singing YELLOW WARBLER in the old NPS nursery behind the chain-link fence. Good birding. Mike Bowen Bethesda, MD D.H.
