New arrivals at Flag Ponds this morning was a singing NORTHERN PARULA, and a WHITE-EYED VIREO. Yellow-throated Warblers continue to be abundant, now the most vocal bird in the park. They easily pish down to eye-level. A few Gadwalls and a pair of Pied-billed Grebes remain on Duncan's Pond along with Wood Ducks in the swamp. Lots of Blue-gray Gnatcatchers. Small flocks of Buffleheads on the bay and a single Northern Gannet, otherwise pretty quiet. The forest floor is covered with spring ephemeral wildflowers and accompanying this appearance are the early spring butterflies -- Spring Azure and Falcate Orange-tip. Also observed were Eastern Comma, Painted Lady, Orange Sulphur, American Lady and Cabbage White.
