Georgetown Reservoir had no ducks at all, nor did the Tidal Basin. The loop road at Hains Point was closed, presumably because of this morning's very high tide. There were 8 RUDDY DUCK in the Anacostia across for the Navy Yard. A single male LESSER SCAUP was with Mallards at the sluice gate just outside the Tidal Basin, which was heavily jammed with debris from the flooding Potomac. The bushes along the cinder road from Anacostia Park to River Terrace (NE DC) had lots of WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS and NORTHERN CARDINALS, my first RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET of the year, and a single GRAY CATBIRD. Anacostia Park had a RED-TAILED HAWK, while Kenilworth Park had 2 RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS. The National Arboretum (NE DC) had my first WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH, RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER and YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER of the year and a few DARK-EYED JUNCO. Otherwise it was eerily quiet.
