There were about 20-25 present with about half being adults. At any one time, there were 6 to 8 sitting on the near towers on Rowland Island but they were regularly leaving to fish and being replaced by others, so there was a large turnover. It seemed several eagles were in the air all the time. When I first got there, I took a walk down the trail. The first birds I heard when I got out of the car were bluebirds and a Pileated Woodpecker. As soon as I got on the trail, there were Eastern Bluebirds and Cedar Waxwings eating berries in the trees. I saw several Winter Wrens and heard several more singing. At one point, I heard a Belted Kingfisher and saw a bird flying by the water. I assumed it was the kingfisher, but then it turned and flew across the trail in front of me and it was a Sharp-shinned Hawk. Had he made a pass at the kingfisher? I didn't see any unusual gulls and their numbers were low. It doesn't seem to be a good year for gulls at Conowingo, at least not yet.
