Ray Kiddy joined me soon after I got there. We only had a few red tailed hawks (I think the final total came to 6) but we had two imm. Golden Eagles (one at ~11:30 and another at ~12:30). We also had an adult Bald Eagle some time in the interim. I was there Saturday from 9:00 am until 10:45 am with about the same number of Red-tails and one each Cooper's and Sharp-shinned Hawks. I also had a flyover Common Loon. Ray told me that he was there after I had left (11:30 - 1:00) pm and had two Golden Eagles on Saturday as well. Ray also tipped me off to a Northern Pintail at Pinto Pond (near Pinto Marsh just east of Rt 220) that I went to look for. I found the pintail and also a relatively late (for out here anyway) Tree Swallow and an immature Northern Harrier. There was also a bird at my girlfriend Donna's bird feeder in Frostburg that gave me quite a start. A partial albino Junco that (without binoculars) looked somewhat like a snow bunting. an aside ... I am at 197 for the county for 2002. The easiest species left to hope for is perhaps Fox Sparrow or Tundra Swan. I also need a Redhead, Greater Scaup, any Scoter, any loon other than Common, any grebe other than Pied-billed or Horned, Common Goldeneye, Rough-legged Hawk, Northern Goshawk, Snow Bunting, Lapland Longspur and any of the harder to get winter finches (i.e. I have Purple Finch and Pine Siskin, but I need Evening Grosbeak or Common Redpoll). I need Red but not WW Crossbills too (since there was one in Frostburg in May). I am hoping to get 200 species for the year (which I have never done yet) and am dangerously close. good birding ...
