From the area of the viewing platform, using binoculars and my spotting scope, I counted 68 Bald Eagles. As I was leaving, I scanned the river below the island just with binoculars and counted 21 more. Since I could not see behind the island and I am sure I missed some scanning only with binoculars, I am confident that there must have been over 100 eagles there. I have never seen so many there before. There were also about 300 Double-crested Cormorants present. I did scan them looking for a Great Cormorant, but could not find any. The gulls were very scarce with only a couple dozen present.
