I saw them from many different angles for more than five minutes and am convinced the color was not the early morning sun (6:20 AM). I looked at the Nat Geographic Guide, and whereas the colors for the "pink-sided" or mearnsi race were right both for shading and placement, the colors were more subtle. Any thoughts, anyone? As a side note, this week in the mornings at Sandy Point turned up some new yearly species for me: BROWN THRASHERS (2) YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER BLACK&WHITE WARBLER CHIPPING SPARROW SNOWY EGRET and at last, a RING-NECKED DUCK among the 800 or so Scaups (mostly all Lesser) on Westinghouse Pond.
