I'll look out for these in future. The garden bird list is disappointing in winter. In spite of the fact that there are quite a lot around in the woods by the Little Patuxent, about half a mile from us, the robins, titmice, juncos, cardinals, redwings, woodpeckers, etc, dont seem to venture into the yard in winter, in spite of my tasty food offerings. Maybe there isn't enough ground cover but the house is rented and I can't do anything about that. However, in the last 3 weeks most of them have come back, plus cowbirds, song sparrows, grackles (first one seen this morning - bit of a mixed blessing though). A big improvement this winter has been the thistle seed feeder for the goldfinches, which has kept them coming right through the winter. So things are definitely looking up now. Looking forward to some interesting viewing over the summer months.
