MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi Arlene (and anybody else interested) That certainly could have been a Field Sparrow we saw in the tree with the Clay-colored. There were lot of them around, although we never saw one near the Clay-colored. Frankly, it didn't occur to us that it could be a Field in the tree. According to Rising's sparrow book, it's fairly surprising to see either Field or C-c Sparrow that high. Rising says the C-c sings 0.3 - 2 meters above ground; we saw this guy singing at least 10-12 meters up in the tree (after we had seen him sing repeatedly at a more conventional altitude at a number of locations), and the second bird also was seen at a comparable height. Rising says the C-c is reported to hybridize with Chipping and Brewer's Sparrows, so maybe also with Field, another Spizella. Additional opinions and (especially) observations welcome!
