The worst downfall is that the "jizz' is all wrong in the paintings. I LOVE Sibley for sparrows but it is a bit much to carry around. I think the most helpful book I have read is Kaufman's advanced birding chapter on sparrows which is right on the mark. I learned sparrows on Chan's Golden guide and carried that for years. I think if I were starting out all over I might use the new Kaufman guide. I keep Rising's book by my bed but it is another "biggie" and not easy to carry.
