He came up to DC yesterday to look at the pair that's been hanging around the RR bridge over the Potomac. He was able to determine that they are 1 year old birds (I had called them adults, shows how much I know). He said the female is unbanded, but the male is banded. He was also able to determine that the male is a bird that hatched on the James River bridge near Hopewell, but was raised at a hacking sight at Hawksbill (in the Shenandoah Mts.). He described it as moving from an urban environment to a natural one. Well apparently this bird prefers the city, since he's been hanging out here for quite a while. He doubts they'll nest this year, though they've been going through the motions. He's going to try to get a box put on the top of the bridge to help them out (though more for next year than this).
