North along the towpath was a YELLOW=BELLIED SAPSUCKER, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET and BROWN CREEPER. The REDHEAD was still at the southerly impoundment at HUGHES HOLLOW along with about 20+ RING-NECKED DUCKS. I walked the trail around the perimeter of the northerly impoundment and saw 3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS and a WINTER WREN. Ducks flying up from the flood wooded area were WOOD, BLUE-WINGED TEAL, AMERICAN WIGEON AND PINTAIL. Two RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were calling throughout the area. The pond at SENECA produced a long and close view of an OTTER. It was diving in the middle of the pond and gradually moved directly toward me until it almost reached the shore in front of me (as I hid behind a tree). The Potomac River at Seneca had 1 LESSER SCAUP, about 25 AMERICAN WIGEON, 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 3 DOUBLE-CREASTED CORMORANT, several HORNED GREBE and several RED-BREASTED MERGANSER. On Saturday, PENNYFIELD had RING-NECKED DUCK, DOUBLE-CREASTED CORMORANT, HOODED MERGANSER, AMERICAN WIGEON, BUFFLEHEAD, AND COMMON MERGANSER on the river. North along the towpath was a HAIRY WOODPECKER, in the bushes around the impoundment was a FOX SPARROW and in the impoundment were about 25 GADWALLS and one GREEN-WINGED TEAL.
