Mostly overcast sky all day with a trinkle of light rain for a short time around 1:30pm and starting to rain at 1:45pm. Wind from the SW. Had a class today in mid morning. Raptor Migration Highlight: Season first hawk of the day was a imm. Merlin at 1:13pm headed SW. Before the hawk arrive, the crows created a commotion at 1:05pm and brought in an army of 35 birds from all directions and guarded the woods at the ridge but didn't mob the Merlin as he passed over. The early record for merlin was August 4th according to the yellow book. Non-Raptor Migration Highlight: Another new yard list was two Cerulean Warblers #116 at 1:15pm headed SW. Other seen, 1 Chimney Swift at 1:14pm headed SW, 1 Chimney Swift at 1:15pm headed SW, and two Barn Swallow at 1:15pm headed W. According to my old field guide, Cerulean Warbler migrating as early as late July and I wasn't sure if this is the early record.
