I went outside to get some slightly cooler air and heard plenty of birds, even at 22:00. I could hear a Wood thrush and several Veerys as they migrated overhead. A Barred owl is calling off in the distance and occassionally I hear an answer. I'll be out to band them in a few minutes; wish me luck. Perhaps I'll get lucky and get that Great horned as well. Of course the Mockingbird is serenading the night from the comfort of a flood light somewhere. I don't understand why mine doesn't do that. Perhaps its just as well or I wouldn't be able to hear the others. The young Starlings are fussing in their nest and a Grasshopper sparrow and Field sparrow alternate with some late night song.
