Also new to this portion of the canal for the millennium were Blue-winged warbler, Indigo bunting and American redstart. Other birds of note were Prothonotary warbler, Louisiana waterthrush, Worm-eating warbler, Ovenbird, Cerulean warbler, Yellow-throated warbler (only one singing from near the river), many Baltimore orioles, and a pair of Common loons still in winter plumage yodeling from mid-river. The most interesting sighting was a pair of Common ravens at a nest. The nest appears to contain at least one juvenile that is about ready to fledge. On of the adults was quite vocal. Fortunately, I did have the recorder with me. Other than a small cloud of mosquitoes, it was a beautiful morning.
