For the last few weeks I've had several Fox Sparrows in my back yard with most of them having quite a bit of grey on the head and sides of neck. T= hey look nearly identical to the cover photo of "Birding" from December 1999 (Vol 31, Number 6). According to the caption, the cover photo is from th= e subspecies zaboria which breeds in western Canada and Alaska. The pictur= e on page 508 is from the iliaca subspecies which breeds in eastern Canada. This should be "our" version of the Fox Sparrow, right? Could I have been seeing a zaboria type Fox Sparrow eventhough they breed out west? Or do we only see iliaca types around here?
